Today's #LentInMusic selection is a bit of a rare thing: a piece from a contemporary composer. While I tend to dip into the past for these musical meditations, this "Ave Maria," from Paul "The Royal Wedding Composer" Mealor seemed a worthy entry despite it's (and his) youth.
The highs were a bit brittle for me when I first listened. But after that initial reaction, I realized that they're the perfect counterpoint for the powerful, ground-shaking basses that close out each stanza. And those final moments are wonderfully powerful. (Playlist)
