The folks at NPR Music are running one of their "First Listen" features, and this one's highlighting Leonard Cohen's latest album, "You Want It Darker." Cohen's long been a favorite of mine, and my appreciation seems to grow with each new release.
He's 82 years old now, and there are sections (and selections) from this album that sound very tired, both physically and emotionally, so I'm really not sure how many more albums we'll be seeing. But I'm sure enjoying this astonishing run of creativity while it lasts.
These "First Listens" have expiration dates, if I remember correctly, so get it while it's hot!
UPDATE 10.27.16: ...and now it's gone. So here's the title track, instead.
If you are the dealer
I’m out of the game
If you are the healer
Means I’m broken and lame
If thine is the glory
Then mine must be the shame
You want it darker
We kill the flame
