As I have doubtless mentioned in the past, title sequences are one of my (frighteningly numerous) obsessions. So I'm sure it will come as no surprise to my "readers" that a glancing Stranger Than Fiction encounter as I researched an upcoming Summa Short resulted in my viewing this video somewhere between 4 and 379 times.
...somewhere...yeah.
Aside from being both funny and clever and visually inventive, it's also an outstanding introduction to the film. Gives us a significant amount of key information in an astonishingly short period of time. And even more importantly, sets the tone for what is to follow. (What follows, incidentally, is a lot of fun. I should watch it again, just to remind myself that the film doesn't really drop off as much from the astonishing quality of its titles as one as Title-Obsessed as myself might suspect.)
That clip's ...clipped sort of strangely. I wonder if it has something to do with the production logos at the beginning and some incomprehensible legalese, or if it's just because MK12 didn't work on that particular section. But whatever the cause, it means you miss out on the cool "flying" effects. My advice? Traipse on over to ArtoftheTitle and check out their (complete) version. Plus, bonus end credits!
